Fostering isn’t a lifetime commitment. It’s a commitment to saving a life.
We are in critical need of more fosters and adopters!
Fostering is the single most important factor directly related to how many animals we can rescue. Unfortunately, it seems as though the need for dogs and cats to be rehomed is rising and we are receiving more and more surrender requests.
Now more than ever, we need the community to adopt or foster. If you have been considering adopting or fostering a new pet, now is the time.
Fostering animals saves lives. Period! All supplies are provided, you just provide a loving temporary home.
The most common reason people say that cannot foster is because they’ll get too attached. Don’t get us wrong, there are times when some of us end up with “foster fails” and keep the ones that stole our hearts. Read below for some feedback from our very own foster families to see how they feel about giving up their fosters when they find their forever home.
"To be honest, some are harder than others. I view it as my job is complete; I love them, nurture them, and found them their forever home! Goal accomplished!" - Aimee, Dog Foster since 2013
"Many people don't want to foster because they feel like they cannot let go when it's time for adoption - which to be honest, is the hardest part - but knowing you've saved one animal and have room for the next one in need is so rewarding. Even if you cannot foster year-round, or aren't sure if you'll like it - I strongly encourage you to try just once!" - Nicole, Dog & Cat Foster since 2009
"When you see how excited their new family is, and how much the pet will be loved, it's really easy! You'll always be able to say that you had a positive effect on that cat's life." - Alyssa & Michael, Cat Foster since 2015
"This is never easy, but you also know the foster is going to the best adopter and there will be another animal needing your house and love." - Christle, Cat Foster since 2015
"It can be very hard sometimes. I have shed tears driving away from a couple of adoptions. What makes it easier is I try to stay in touch with the adopters during the first few weeks. The pictures they send make me happy and I know the kitty went to a great home. Besides, there is always another kitty that needs rescuing." - Jenna, Cat Foster since 2016
"I have been lucky to meet the people adopting my fosters and have seen their joy in adding a new family member. Any sadness I may have is wiped away when I see how loved my kitty will be. Some fosters even send me photos which I love, and some have even become friends. The rewards outweigh any negatives." - Bonnie, Cat Foster since 2013
"It is a little hard...but we focus on how happy the family getting their new kitten is!! We also focus on our role in the transition from a homeless kitty to a forever home. It seems to make the goodbye much easier." - Kelly, Cat Foster since 2017
